Motorcycle Glove Sizing: Alpinestars vs Klim vs Dainese vs REV'IT!
Gloves look like the easiest thing to size: one measurement, one letter. But street, sport and touring glove brands don't put the letters in the same place. On the official charts, the same hand can be a Small at one brand and a Medium at another. Below are the Alpinestars, REV'IT!, Klim and Dainese glove charts side by side, with the source for every number.
The short version
- Measure around your palm, behind the knuckles, without the thumb [1][3][4]. Alpinestars says to measure both hands and use the larger one [1]; REV'IT! says to measure your dominant hand [3].
- Klim's letters sit about one size lower. A 21.5 cm hand is an Alpinestars Medium (20.3–21.6 cm) and a REV'IT! Medium (20.7–22.0 cm), but a Klim Small (21–22 cm) [1][3][6].
- Dainese lists one number per size, not a range (Medium = 21.6 cm / 8.5 in) [4].
- Don't carry a glove letter from one brand to another. Look up your measurement on each brand's chart.
How each brand says to measure
| Brand | What the official chart says |
|---|---|
| Alpinestars [1][2] | Wrap a tape around your hand behind the knuckles, not including the thumb, keeping the tape snug. Measure both hands and use the larger measurement. |
| REV'IT! [3] | Hand circumference around the palm of your dominant hand, just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Hand length from the tip of the longest finger to the crease under the palm. |
| Dainese [4] | The circumference of the palm just under the knuckles. |
| Klim [6][8] | The chart lists palm circumference and palm length per size; the chart pages we checked don't say where to take them. |
Use a soft tape. Our measuring guide shows the hand measurement, and our printable tape works if you don't own one.

The Alpinestars numbers are from its men's and women's road glove chart, shown on the SP-8 V3 product page [1][2]; it lists no men's XS. The REV'IT! numbers are from the Kinetic 2 product page, and REV'IT! publishes a size guide on each product page, so check the one for your glove [3]. Klim's chart is its general men's glove chart, and the same chart appears on the Klim glove product page we checked [6][8]. Dainese's numbers are from the size guide on a current men's glove page [4].
The same charts in inches
| Size | Alpinestars [1][2] | Klim [6] | Dainese [4] |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | – | 8–8¼ | 7.5 |
| S / SM | 7½–8 | 8¼–8⅝ | 8 |
| M / MD | 8–8½ | 8⅝–9 | 8.5 |
| L / LG | 8½–9 | 9–9½ | 9 |

| 3XL / XXXL | 10–11 | 10¼–10⅝ | 10.5 |
The REV'IT! product page we checked lists centimeters only [3]. Our REV'IT! sizing guide has REV'IT! glove sizes in inches.
Worked examples (straight from the charts)
| Your hand (palm circumference) | Alpinestars | REV'IT! | Klim | Dainese |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20.5 cm | M (20.3–21.6) | S (19.4–20.7) | XS (20–21) | Between S (20.3) and M (21.6) |
| 21.5 cm | M (20.3–21.6) | M (20.7–22.0) | SM (21–22) | Between S (20.3) and M (21.6) |
| 22.5 cm | L (21.6–22.9) | L (22.0–23.2) | MD (22–23) | Between M (21.6) and L (22.9) |
| 23.5 cm | XL (22.9–24.1) | XL (23.2–24.5) | LG (23–24) | Between L (22.9) and XL (24.1) |
A 20.5 cm hand gets three different letters across three brands. If a measurement lands exactly on the edge between two sizes on a chart, the chart itself doesn't say which one to pick.
Length matters too: REV'IT! and Klim
Two of the four charts add a length number, which helps riders with long or short fingers:
- REV'IT! lists hand length per size, from 19.4–19.9 cm for S to 22.4–22.8 cm for 4XL (Medium: 19.9–20.4 cm) [3].
- Klim lists one palm length per size, from 19.0 cm (7½ in) for XS to 22.8 cm (9 in) for 3XL (MD: 20.3 cm / 8 in) [6].
Alpinestars' road glove chart and Dainese's glove size guide list hand circumference only [2][4].
Women's glove charts
| Size | Alpinestars women's [1][2] | Klim women's [7] | Dainese women's [5] |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 16.5–17.8 cm (6½–7 in) | 18–19 cm (7⅛–7½ in) | 15.2 cm (6 in) |
| S / SM | 17.8–19 cm (7–7½ in) | 19–20 cm (7½–8 in) | 16.5 cm (6.5 in) |
| M / MD | 19–20.3 cm (7½–8 in) | 20–21 cm (8–8¼ in) | 17.8 cm (7 in) |
| L / LG | 20.3–21.6 cm (8–8½ in) | 21–22 cm (8¼–8⅝ in) | 19.1 cm (7.5 in) |
| XL | 21.6–22.9 cm (8½–9 in) | 22–23 cm (8⅝–9 in) | – |
| 2XL | – | 23–24 cm (9–9½ in) | – |
The spread is even wider here. An 18.5 cm hand is an Alpinestars women's S (17.8–19 cm), a Klim women's XS (18–19 cm), and falls between Dainese women's M (17.8 cm) and L (19.1 cm). Klim also lists a women's palm length per size (MD: 19.7 cm / 7¾ in) [7]. We didn't check a REV'IT! women's glove chart for this guide.
How to choose
- Measure palm circumference behind the knuckles, without the thumb, on both hands. Note the larger number and your dominant hand.
- Look it up on the brand's own chart, not the letter you wear in another brand.
- Check the chart on the exact product page. REV'IT! publishes one per product [3], and Alpinestars' chart here is its road glove chart [2]; off-road and race gloves can use other charts.
- If you're on an edge, compare the length column at REV'IT! or Klim [3][6]. Yardstick's size tools (free account) size Klim gloves from Klim's own chart and show "No size yet" for brands whose glove chart we haven't loaded (how we size).
Common questions
Is a Medium glove the same size at every brand?
No. On the official charts, a 21.5 cm (palm) hand is a Medium at Alpinestars (20.3 to 21.6 cm) and REV'IT! (20.7 to 22.0 cm), but a Small at Klim (21 to 22 cm). Klim's letters sit about one size lower for the same hand, so look up your measurement on each brand's own chart.
Where do I measure my hand for motorcycle gloves?
Around the palm just below (behind) the knuckles, without the thumb. Alpinestars says to keep the tape snug, measure both hands and use the larger number. REV'IT! says to measure your dominant hand. Dainese says to measure the circumference of the palm just under the knuckles.
What if I'm between two glove sizes?
None of the four charts we checked (Alpinestars, REV'IT!, Klim, Dainese) says which way to go. REV'IT! and Klim also publish a hand or palm length per size, which can help break a tie; Alpinestars and Dainese list hand circumference only.
