Dainese Sizing: Converting Euro Sizes to US
Dainese labels its gear in Euro sizes, and that one detail trips up more American riders than anything else. The good news: the conversion for jackets is simple once you see it laid out.
The rule of thumb: subtract 10
On RevZilla's Dainese men's jacket chart, every Euro size sits exactly 10 above its US equivalent: Euro 48 is US 38, Euro 52 is US 42, Euro 56 is US 46 [1]. So if you wear a 42 suit jacket, start your search at a Dainese 52, then confirm with a tape measure.
| Euro | US | Alpha | Chest (cm) | Waist (cm) | Height (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 46 | 36 | SM | 90–94 | 78–82 | 169–172 |
| 48 | 38 | MD | 94–98 | 82–86 | 172–175 |
| 50 | 40 | MD | 98–102 | 86–90 | 175–178 |
| 52 | 42 | LG | 102–106 | 90–94 | 178–181 |
| 54 | 44 | LG | 106–110 | 94–98 | 181–184 |
| 56 | 46 | XL | 110–114 | 98–102 | 184–187 |
| 58 | 48 | XL | 114–118 | 102–106 | 187–188 |

Watch the letter sizes
Look at the alpha column: two Euro sizes share each letter. Both 48 and 50 are "Medium," and both 52 and 54 are "Large" [1]. That's a 4 cm chest swing hiding behind the same letter. If a listing only says "L," you don't know which one you're getting. Find the number.
Between sizes? Go up.
RevZilla's Dainese chart says it directly: if your measurements fall between sizes, size up [1]. Chest is the number to anchor on, and arm length (shoulder point to wrist bone) is the one to double-check [1].
Short and tall cuts
Dainese makes Short and Tall versions of many jackets, and they don't follow the "minus 10" rule. A Euro 52 Short is listed as US 42 with a 101–107 cm chest for riders 170–174 cm tall, while a Euro 52 Tall covers the same chest for riders 186–190 cm tall with longer arms (63–64 cm) [1]. If you're shorter than about 5'6" or taller than about 6'2", check whether your jacket comes in these cuts before settling for sleeves that don't fit.
Gloves and boots
Gloves are sized by hand circumference in inches: Medium is 8.5 in, Large 9 in, XL 9.5 in [1]. Boots run on their own Euro-to-US table. A 43 is listed as US 10, a 44 as US 11 and a 45 as US 11.5 [1]. Note that this boot conversion is not the same as Alpinestars', so don't swap one brand's table for the other.
Does Dainese run small?
You'll see this claim on forums, but we couldn't confirm it from a primary source, so we're not going to tell you it as fact. What's verified is the Euro labeling and the size-up-when-between advice above. Measure honestly and the chart will do the rest.
Quick checklist
- Take your US jacket size and add 10 for a starting point.
- Confirm with a chest measurement in centimeters.
- Ignore the letter size; buy by number.
- Between sizes, go up.
- Very short or very tall? Look for Short/Tall cuts.
